Creating Content That Stands Out In Today's Competitive Environement

Hello.

Are you stuck in 2018's Twitter? Following outdated growth playbooks that no longer work?

You see, I've noticed that many of my followers are struggling.

These are people who are working hard to grow their Twitter accounts.

And despite posting four times a day and engaging a lot, they don't seem to gain traction.

And after analyzing their accounts, I've come to realize that they are simply following the wrong playbook.

They are not creating content that stands out in today's competitive social media landscape.

Instead, many are stuck in the modus operandi of the old Twitter 2018 algorithm.

The good news is that creating content that stands out in today's environment is not really a matter of working harder, but working smarter.

And in this post, I want to show you which type of content stands out in today's enviroment so you can start producing it at scale.

But before I show you the type of content that stands out on X today, it makes sense to first compare the performance of the three most common types of content we see on this platform.

By doing this, I can then explain why I concluded that this particular type of content outperforms all the others.

PS: Below is the gist of how I run content analysis on my own account.

You should be constantly doing the same and looking at your own numbers. This is the only way to know what's working to grow your account and what's not.

Comparing 3 Types Of Content

1. Short Tweets:

These are tweets with up to 280 characters.

They are quick to create, short, punchy, and perfect for conveying a brief point.

The only problem is that the algorithm doesn't push this type of content to many people.

For example, I have little over over 4,000 followers.

But my short tweets barely reach my entire follower base, much less people outside of it.

  • Short tweets barely reach half of my followers base

Relying on them as my main growth strategy would be unwise.

Sadly, I've noticed that many people still rely heavily on short tweets as their main growth strategy.

But we are not in the Twitter era of 2018 anymore. The algorithm has undergone significant changes.

Short, punchy, LinkedIn-style content does not work anymore.

You cannot be publishing this type of content and expect to grow your account.

2. Threads:

Threads are sequences of tweets.

They allow you to talk about a topic with more depth and nuance.

Before long posts became a feature on Twitter, threads were the go-to way to grow your account and go viral.

For instance, take a look at the stats of one of my most recent threads:

Reached 6x my followers base

So, the inevitable conclusion is that threads are better than short posts. They require more effort, but it's worth it.

But even though they are good, threads aren't the BEST way to grow your account right now...

3. Long posts:

Long posts are the "meta" when it comes to content publishing on X right now.

Long posts are similar to blog posts, where you can provide a lot of value to your audience.

These posts are usually driven by stories or valuable information, making them an excellent way to establish authority in your niche.

On top of that, the algo also rewards them with massive reach.

Take a look at my stats below:

This particular post reached 20x my follower base. I would never reach as many people by posting single tweets alone.

And this type of performance is not uncommon.

Want To Grow? Create Long Posts

Long posts are the main driver of my growth right now.

If you're not posting longer posts and relying on short posts for growth, I have bad news. You won't grow your account.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'll say it again:

You can't expect your account to grow by only publishing short, LinkedIn-style content.

Most of the growth gurus you see out there post this type of content because they already have a large follower base.

If you want to reach people outside of your current followers and go viral, this type of content won't cut it.

You need to focus on threads and longer posts.

So, in conclusion, here are my personal guidelines that I follow when deciding what type of content to create:

1. Short tweets: Rants and random thoughts - one per day. These are not worth it any serious effort.

2. Threads - only create these if you want to make a larger point that needs many images, as threads are the only way you can stack lots of images.

3. Long posts - aim for at least one every other day. These are worth all the effort you can put into them. They have to deliver mad value to the reader.

As the current X algo stands, follow this guideline and you can't really go wrong.
